Max Subin
Police Chief
Chief of Police, Beverly Hills Police Department
Effective June 27, 2026, Max Subin serves as the Chief of Police for the Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD). With 27 years of law enforcement experience, Chief Subin’s leadership is defined by deep institutional knowledge, a career built entirely from within the ranks, and a steadfast commitment to community-oriented public safety.
Early Life and Education
Chief Subin discovered his passion for public service early, beginning his law enforcement journey as an Explorer and Cadet with the Santa Monica Police Department.
He pursued higher education alongside his career, earning both his Bachelor’s Degree and a Master of Public Administration (specializing in Public Management and Leadership) from California State University, Northridge. Committed to continuous professional growth, he also completed the California Police Chiefs Executive Leadership Institute at the Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University in 2021.
Career and Leadership History
Chief Subin joined the Beverly Hills Police Department in 1999, where he initially served on the front lines in Patrol, the Crime Suppression Unit, and the Detective Bureau, while also gaining vital community insight through assignments overseeing the Community Relations Unit and the Professional Standards Unit. His steady ascent into executive leadership accelerated in 2018, when he was promoted to Lieutenant and served as the Detective Bureau Commander. By late 2020, his scope expanded significantly upon his assignment to the Office of the Chief as both Executive Officer (XO) and Public Information Officer (PIO).
His leadership capabilities were further recognized in January 2021 when he was named Acting Captain, all while maintaining his critical XO and PIO duties. As a full Captain, he continued to deepen his institutional knowledge by first commanding the Investigative Services Division and later leading the Administrative Services Division. This comprehensive, ground-up experience culminated on June 27, 2026, with his official appointment to Chief of Police, placing him at the helm of the department’s 154 sworn officers and 112 civilian staff.
